FAQs

Why are we doing this?

Over the past six and a half years, we’ve learned a lot about the future of urban mobility and what it means for cities and the people who live in them. We’ve gotten consistent feedback from cities we partner with that access to our aggregated data will inform decisions about how to adapt existing infrastructure and invest in future solutions to make our cities more efficient. We hope Uber Movement can play a role in helping cities grow in a way that works for everyone.

How is Uber Movement preserving the privacy of Uber riders and drivers?

Preserving rider and driver privacy is our #1 priority. All data is anonymized and aggregated to ensure no personally identifiable information or user behavior can be surfaced through the Movement tool.

For in-depth details of how we're ensuring this, read our methodology whitepaper below. All data shared through Movement adheres to Uber’s privacy policy. At no point will Movement provide a means for partners to access individual driver or rider details in any way, shape or form.

Can my organization partner with Uber for research or product feedback?

We’re continually iterating on Movement in collaboration with government experts, transportation professionals, and academic organizations around the globe. We’re always interested in discussing research opportunities and soliciting feedback.

When will I get access?

We’re gradually rolling out Movement to those who have requested access so far, with plans to make Movement publicly available to everyone in the weeks ahead.

What are the licensing terms?

Movement makes all insights available under the Creative Commons, Attribution Non-Commercial license.

Is this data available for commercial purposes?

No; data is available under a Creative Commons, Attribution Non-Commercial license. Contact research@uber.com if you have any questions regarding your specific case.

What format is the data download available in?

All data is downloadable in CSV format. These exports include origin and destination geometry information for use in geospatial applications. If you have a specific geospatial need not handled by this case, we always welcome feedback to improve the product.

The city I’m interested in isn’t listed. What should I do?

Uber Movement will only work in cities where we operate. Over time, we’ll be expanding to the majority of those cities. If you have a recommendation of where we should roll out to next, we’d welcome your feedback.

How can I cite Movement data in my research or project?
